Mini Snap Keychain Pouch – A Quick DIY Sewing Project

The Mini Snap Keychain Pouch is one of those little sewing projects that looks simple, but turns out to be surprisingly useful. What began as a practical idea quickly turned into a fun, satisfying sewing project that is perfect for using up fabric scraps and making something small, thoughtful, and genuinely handy.

This little pouch came to life because of a very specific request from my best friend. She wanted something small she could clip to her keys, attach to a bag, or hook onto a belt loop, and just know it would always be there. The main reason was to carry a spare pair of gloves and a face shield for CPR – one of those things you don’t really reach for every day, but want to have on hand just in case. She wanted it to be discreet, easy to grab, and always in the same spot, so there was no digging through her bag or wondering where she’d left it last time.

Once I started working on the design, I realised just how useful this little pouch could be beyond the original request. It’s one of those sewing projects that adapts beautifully to real life – small, lightweight, quick to make, and easy to customise depending on what you want to carry inside. I’ve found it’s perfect for things like tampons for a night out, painkillers, spare plasters, chewing gum, or even a tiny piece of jewellery you want to keep safe. It’s exactly the kind of little pouch you reach for when you need it, without it ever getting in the way.

One of the things that makes this project so quick and easy is that it’s designed for non-fraying fabrics like cork, vinyl, or faux leather – no stabilisers or extra interfacing needed. It only takes a few minutes to make one, and a single press snap to keep the pouch securely closed.

To make it even easier, I’ve created a free printable template for the Mini Snap Keychain Pouch. Just download, print, cut your pieces, and you’re ready to start sewing your own little pouch.
